Journey Through Your Digestive Tract with PillCam

PillCam capsule endoscopy can help your doctor determine the cause for gastrointestinal symptoms such as abdominal pain, diarrhea, bleeding or anemia. The tiny camera contained in the capsule captures images of your gastrointestinal (GI) tract as it travels through the body and transmits the images to a computer so your physician can view them and make a diagnosis.

How the procedure works:

  • The PillCamTM is swallowed with water.
  • The PillCamTM makes its way through the esophagus and intestinal system taking pictures within six hours.
  • The images are transmitted to a recorder belt worn around the patient's waist.
  • PillCamTM is disposable and passes through the gastrointestinal (GI) tract naturally and painlessly, usually within 24 to 72 hours.

The PillCam is not appropriate for people with swallowing disorders or with known or suspected gastrointestinal obstructions, strictures or fi stulas. People with cardiac pacemakers or other implanted electromedical devices should be monitored while using PillCamTM.

PillCam endoscopy is now performed at Coffeyville Regional Medical Center by Dr. James Lin. To learn more about this procedure, contact the Director of Surgical Services, Teresa Barker. Phone: 620-252-1581or email: tbarker@crmcinc.org.
